Hot! When the world is on your shoulders, it’s a great time to squat.

tom-platz-dr-squatTo everyone wanting to start training in the gym… heed my words. The path ahead has not been tread yet. Many have stepped out on their own voyage, but until you’ve started walking, no one can predict your future. You may be incredibly weak and only able to bench 60lbs, but give it 2 years of consistently hard work and dedication, and you will be able to push it to higher limits.

This is what working out is like. This is what disciplines it will test you in, because the gym is the embodiment of your will. The will to succeed, the will to push on and the will to live. You cannot waltz into the gym and lift weights. There is a lot more to it. It is a complete science.

Mind, body, chemical, physical, mental. You need to be the master of these domains in order to achieve any form of aesthetics and strength.

The mind is where 100% of your failures will occur unless you harness it. This is where the bulk of your motivation and success will stem from. A failure in the mind, is a failure for the body.

The body is where you will reap most of the rewards. In order to do that, you need to nourish it with quality supplements and food. Garbage in equals garbage out. Not all carbs are equal. You could be eating a burger and fries at McDonald’s but that will never stand up to the test against a kangaroo steak and salad.

Chemical. The trickiest domain of all. Steroids, pre-workout supplements, lubricants, herbs, teas etc… These will only raise the glass ceiling of potential for you. Do not think that they will solely get you to where you need to be alone. There are plenty of reasons that will make you failure if you fall into this way of thinking.

Physically, your body will be sore and broken time and time again. You need to really read your body and understand the difference between discomfort and hurt. It’s natural to be in discomfort, but you should only quit when you’re hurt. Don’t be a hero and injure yourself more. That’s the fastest way to negating all your gains.

No one will understand the way your mind thinks. Mentally, you will be strained. Waking up to have a protein shake during night. Cooking your weeks worth of meals on Sunday. Eating cold meals at work. Saying no to cake. No to Friday night drinks. Logging every calorie you place into your mouth. Logging every rep and weight. Saying no to your girlfriend because of gym. Not seeing your family during dinner because gym wrecked you.

The bodybuilding and powerlifting will only accept the best, and if you think that your problems in life can’t be broken, then the family isn’t for you. You need to seek the glory, not wait for it!
